Apex Announces $500k Summer Circuit

Despite live events being postponed indefinitely, Apex Legends commissioner, John Nelson says that the game is in a great state and the esports side of things is just about to heat up with the $500k Global Series Summer Circuit beginning 20 June.

Within the Apex Legends esports scene there has been experimentation with tournament formats, specifically; structure, points, prize pools and online tournaments.

It was timely that the Apex Legends Global Series Summer Circuit was announced recently as a four-month event with a $500k prize pool up for grabs.

“Everyone understands that when we launched the Apex Legends Global Series, online competition was meant to be used as qualifiers for live events,” Nelson said. “In the early, early months here in reaction to coronavirus, we’ve been adding online competition, really to replace where we were supposed to have live events within the calendar.”

The summer circuit will begin on June 20 and will see teams compete from combined regions to qualify for September’s ‘super regional’ events – Europe/Middle East/Africa – North and South America – South East Asia/Australia/New Zealand – Japan and South Korea.

In other good news for the Apex community, Nelson has said he’s not too worried about other popular titles entering the FPS scene. “The industry is going to continue to create games that people love, so we will continue to focus on the Apex Legends community and what’s best for that community moving forward.”
