Faze, NRG included among 25 organisations bidding for an LCK birth in 2021

North American fan favourites FaZe Clan and NRG Esports are reportedly among 25 organisations fighting for a permanent spot in the League of Legends Championship Korea (LCK) from 2021 onwards.

Riot Korea’s decision to move to a fully franchised league means they are the last of the big 4 leagues to implement a franchise model.

Statements suggest this will provide a more sustainable business model where players, fans and organisations are tipped to benefit from stronger, stable teams, long term sponsorship’s and shared revenue among the organisations.

“We have concluded that LCK must be a stage where players, teams, and fans can fulfill their dreams not only for a short period, but for generations. We will adopt the Long-term partnership model in LCK in 2021. And we will bring back the glory,” the statement read.

Korean publication Fomos has reported that prospective esports teams from overseas (FaZe and NRG), all 10 LCK  teams – including three-time world champions T1 – and eight teams from the Challengers have submitted their intent to invest and submit an application by the closing date, 19th of June, 2020.

The league is now open to applications and have detailed the criteria on a new website ‘The future of LCK.’ Applications must include a business plan, a team operation plan and a fundraising plan.
