Shanghai starts construction on $898 million Esports Arena

Shanghai is looking to position itself as the global powerhouse for esports events with construction of a $898m esports hub.

The venue named the Shanghai International New Cultural and Creative E-sports Center will span across 500,000 square meters and is designed to be a central hub where teams and companies can be based and compete in a range of esports titles. it will have a hotel attached.

Last year the city hosted the League of Legends World Championship so is no stranger to the biggest events on the esports calendar.

With global revenue quickly growing to an estimated $1.1 billion in 2020 and China reaching approximately 700 million gamer’s it’s no surprises they’re looking to establish themselves as the global powerhouse of esports.

The hub is expected to open in 2024.
